It is total chaos – something we’ve never really seen before
When Swedish Television’s Agenda interviews John Hassler, professor of economics at Stockholm University, he says:
”It is total chaos – something we’ve never really seen before. The major thing is that we’re now witnessing one of the world’s most important leaders behaving in a completely incomprehensible manner.”
Today’s lecture, attended by about a hundred students, focuses on the effects of imposing tariffs. According to John Hassler, tariffs could cause prices of imported goods in the U.S. to rise – and consumers risk paying the price.
Among the students, there is also a clear awareness that the future is uncertain.
”I’ve come to really appreciate the Swedish process of governance and inquiries. It’s a slow, bureaucratic, democratic process compared to the rather temperamental, dictatorial way”, says student Emanuel Westerlund.
John Hassler is a professor of economics at the Institute for International Economic Studies. The introductory economics course at Stockholm University is one of the courses he teaches.
